ATTY. MANUEL B. GAITE

Atty. Gaite is a graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the Ateneo de Manila University where he likewise finished his law and placed 30th in the 1983 bar examinations.

For 23 years (1986-2009), Atty. Gaite worked in the Office of the President (OP) of the Philippines, starting with President Corazon C. Aquino, on to Presidents Fidel V. Ramos, Joseph E. Estrada, and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

He served in OP in various capacities: Director for Legal of the Presidential Management Staff (PMS); Assistant Secretary for Regional Operations of the PMS, Chairman of the Technical Working Group of the ARMM Social Fund for Peace and Development, and the ARMM Devolution Committee. He served as Undersecretary and Presidential Assistant for Flagship Programs and Projects during the time of President Ramos and as Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal during the time of President Gloria Arroyo.

He sat in the board of the Manila International Airport Authority, Food Terminal, Inc. Home Guaranty Corporation, Bliss Development Corporation, Cagayan Economic Zone Authority, and the Oversight Committee on the Local Government Code of 1991.

He was a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) from 2009 to 2016. A Lifetime Member of the Camera Club of the Philippines and founding member of the Artists Guild of Santa Maria (AGOS), he has been a contributor and a fulltime volunteer in Mater Dei Academy, teaching Understanding Culture, Society and Politics; Philippine Politics and Governance; and Contemporary Issues, to Grades 10 and 12 learners.
